It’s official! Seniors John Piccirillo and Gabriella Micucci have each scored 1000 points! This is no easy feat, and certainly requires dedication and tenacity, two traits our two Cavos have in abundance!
Captain of the Varsity Basketball team, Piccirillo stated, “Scoring 1000 points is just a great feeling, knowing how hard of an accomplishment it is, and being one of the ones to do it, is just an unreal feeling.”
One of the captains of the Girls Varsity Basketball team, Micucci shared her feelings about having met the memorable milestone, “It feels amazing. It feels like all of the hard work I’ve put in has truly paid off.”
John is currently looking at colleges, and plans to continue playing basketball. Sports are a major part of his life, and this is easily seen in his articles for The Cavo Chronicles. He enjoys working out and staying active, and credits his success on the court to a strong support system.
“I give credit to – first – God, my parents, and all of my coaches and teammates,” he shared.
Faith, gratitude, and determination are powerful tools that will also help him in his life beyond the paint.
Most likely heading to Penn State University in the fall, Gabriella plans to study accounting. Her favorite class is math; she also enjoys playing sports, and spending time with her friends. Her strengths (an eye for detail and strong interpersonal skills) will certainly come in handy in the classroom, just the way they do on the hardwood.
Gabriella admits, “I credit my success to my parents, coaches, and teammates for believing in me and always pushing me to be my best.”
Both seniors acknowledge their coaches for encouraging and inspiring them.
Piccirillo shared, “Coach Ziemba always trusted me to make the right plays, and eventually the awards will come to me.”
Micucci stated, “My coach [Colleen Malzahn] has always told me to keep going despite any challenges that come my way, and her encouragement throughout the past four years has really helped me along the way.”
When asked for their parting words of advice to young athletes everywhere, Piccirillo declared, “… awards don’t come for free. When you work hard, the awards will show for it.”
Micucci offered, “One piece of advice I would give to younger athletes is never to let anything get in the way of them being the best version of themselves.”
Two good points from the earners of two thousand points!
Go Cavos!
