So here we are, Cavos, the last few days of school. Books have been returned, fines collected, and grades finalized. Now it’s just a matter of wrapping up the year with a nice little bow. But students aren’t just sitting at their desks with their hands folded, watching the clock.
Yesterday there was an 8th Grade Spanish Food Truck Festival Showcase in room 117, hosted by Ms. Ramirez.
Ramirez explained, “Over the past several weeks, students have researched a Spanish-speaking country, explored its culture and cuisine, created an authentic Spanish menu, and prepared a traditional dish to share. This project has allowed students to combine language skills, cultural understanding, creativity, and presentation skills in a meaningful and engaging way.”
An absolute hit, there was little left to sample by the time this reporter made it to the room.
Mrs. Cariddi’s math students spent yesterday’s class making edible slime. Student choice is an important part of education, so Mrs. Cariddi gave Alexa and Brian the choice between making edible slime or super balls. They went the slimy route, and then decided to use powdered sugar over cornstarch (for taste).

According to Cariddi, “Their measuring and scientific skills came into play as they mixed the ingredients. They courageously tasted it and found it was very sweet.”
My Language Arts class has been more interested in creating a “Candy Salad”. The organization that goes into this makes me wonder how students struggle with keeping papers and assignments in check. Then again, when the result is a sugary explosion of color and texture, you can see why they get as excited as they do.

Teachers have been working hard to pack up their classrooms and grade those last-minute assignments, but they’ve also been busy making sure that their students end the year on high (and tasty) note!
Have a sweet and safe summer, Cavos!
