Who knew coffee could be so inspiring? Max Aquila’s piece caught my attention, and I’m sure it caught yours too!

Art is all around us, and that statement was even more evident on Tuesday, April 18th, when Mr. Deo invited some of his favorite local artists (Max Aquila, Kirpa Kaur Gandhok, Jayden Quenano, Abigail Marin, Aruwyn Connor, and Christian Sanchez) to display their works.

Set up in the main lobby, creative types displayed their sketches, paintings, digital art, and more.

Some of Max Aquila’s eye-catching contributions were on display, and made me both impressed and curious. (Photo by E. Martinucci)

Max shared a method of using splashes of coffee as a medium, while Aruwyn focused on creating realism through shading and light.  Abigail used her Betta fish as a source of inspiration, as well as her imagination when it came to swirling elegant dragons.

It was a pleasure to see so many people stopping to appreciate the time and talent these young artists dedicated to each piece.  I found myself asking if they’d taken courses, or just had a natural desire to create.  How wonderful to learn that these students just love to make beautiful things!

I was in good company as I beamed with pride over these students’ artistic accomplishments.

As he thanked each participant, EHS’s very own Renaissance man, Deochand Deodharrie commented, “I am very proud of your efforts and especially your courage to show off your creative work to the school community”.

Known for teaching science, and encouraging the arts, Mr. Deo has hosted assorted jams and presentations in his classroom and beyond.

Not too long ago, several students played guitar during activity period, giving classmates a treat and a place to hang out and appreciate some music and positive energy.

This latest installment also provided some smiles and space for encouragement.

Here’s to more art shows in the future (and in the main lobby)!
