Italian 3 Takes on Brooklyn’s Pizza

Italian 3 Takes on Brooklyns Pizza

Ava Sassi and Ryan Mulligan

On Wednesday, March 29th, the Italian 3 class took a field trip to Brooklyn Pizza in Ridgewood, New Jersey. Brooklyn Pizza is one of Mrs. Pacciani’s favorite places to eat dinner on a Friday night. Mrs. Pacciani wanted all of her students to experience, in her opinion, the best pizza she has ever had. She told us to bring at least $15 each so it was enough to pay for all of us individually.

When we all got there, the restaurant already had the tables set up for all of the students and everyone was ready to order. When everyone got situated, we started to use our communication skills we have learned in Italian class to order ourselves pizza. We also got to try some classic Italian appetizers like calamari, garlic bread, and mozzarella fritte. The waitress at Brooklyn’s Pizza knew exactly what we were ordering and wrote it all down.

As a group, we all ended up getting four large pies to share and splitting the price. On top of eating great food, we got to practice speaking in Italian to others outside of the classroom. While we were eating our pizza, people continued to walk in and glance at our table. It turns out that they can also speak in Italian! It was great for us all to be able to communicate with others and it seemed like they all enjoyed our company. Mrs. Pacciani seemed to enjoy talking to them and, overall, we had a great time.

Junior Sarah Mokrzecki, who is in her 3rd year in Italian, stated “Going to Brooklyn’s with the Italian class was such a cool experience, and I’m thankful for Ms. Pacciani for organizing it. Eating great food and learning about Italian heritage is why more people should take Italian!”

The pizza was delicious. We had the chance to watch it being made, which changed my view on how I really should be making homemade pizza. The chef started off by putting the cheese first, and then small drops of sauce where the cheese wasn’t placed. It seemed to be a new way of making pizza for a lot of the students, because they were shocked as well.

My official rating of this pizza is a 10/10. The appetizers were spectacular as well, and I will definitely be coming back soon.  The trip itself?  11.
