The FIFA World Cup 2026 is officially bringing some of the biggest games to MetLife Stadium. MetLife will host a total of eight games, including the championship final on July 19, 2026. This makes our area one of the most important locations for the entire tournament, which is a huge deal for local fans and students.
The stadium will host five group matches, including an exciting match up between Brazil and Morocco on June 13. There will also be a round of 32 match and a round of 16 match played in New Jersey. Having multiple rounds, including knockout games means fans here will get to see high level soccer with some of the best players in the world competing to stay alive in the tournament.
Students at our school are already talking about how exciting it is that a global event is happening so close to home.
“It’s crazy to think the World Cup final is going to be right here in New Jersey,” said senior Matt Cappelluti
“That’s something people travel across the world for, and it’s basically in my backyard,” Matt added.
“I really want to go to a least one game,” said senior Angel Ponce-Montes.
“Seeing these teams play live would be such an amazing experience at Met Life Stadium,” Angel added.
The World Cup coming to MetLife Stadium is more than just a sport event, it is a once in a lifetime opportunity for soccer fans in New Jersey. With eight matches, including the final, New Jersey will be at the center of the soccer world. Whether you are attending the games or just watching from home, this is something that will definitely be remembered for years to come for New Jersey soccer fans.
