The question of whether Jeremiyah Love from Notre Dame can win the Heisman Trophy this year is exciting, especially given how impressive his season has been.  He’s become one of the most exciting players to watch in college football this year, producing big run plays and given Notre Dame’s offense a spark whenever he touches the ball.  His speed and playmaking have definitely put him on the national radar.

Love has also put up some strong numbers including 1300 rushing yards and a large number of touchdowns.  Breaking ND records has helped his case as well.  When a running back stands out this much at a major program, the votes usually notice.  The combination of production and big plays has made him a part of the Heisman conversation.

But there are challenges working against him.  In recent years, the Heisman has been won by quarterbacks, and voters tend to favor that position.  Love also shares carries with other running backs on his team which limits his total yardage compared with players who get every snap.

The competition this year is also tough.  Several top quarterbacks from big programs are considered favorites.  For running backs like Love to win, he would likely need some big numbers in the final games and also for some of the quarterbacks to slip.

When Nick Giella was asked, “Will Jeremiyah Love’s talent and big plays be enough to win the Heisman?” He said, “Love needs a great season finish and a bit of luck to overcome the quarterback advantage.”

He was also asked, “If not Love, who is your thoughts on this years Heisman winner?” He replied, “I think quarterback Fernando Mendoza from Indiana is a top Heisman contender.”

Giella added, “His stats and leading his team to big wins make him a strong contender for the trophy.”

In the end, Jeremiyah Love’s season has been very impressive, and the Heisman discussion around him is completely deserved. Hopefully, with some luck from the Irish, Love could be this year’s Heisman Trophy winner.
