On January 20, 2025, President Trump was sworn into office for his second term of Presidency. It was estimated there were nearly 400,000 attendees of the 47th President’s inauguration held at the U.S. Capitol building in Washington D.C.
President Trump began his Presidency promptly, signing 22 executive orders on his first day of office. This is an immense amount compared to former President Joe Biden, who signed nine executive orders on his first day. Trump began by placing a 75-day pause on the banning of the popular app TikTok in order to give himself and his administration the time to address the situation properly. He also repealed 78 of Joe Biden’s previous executive actions relating to climate, migration, and racial equality.
Another executive order was signed to deliver emergency price relief regarding gas and groceries prices as well as decreasing inflation throughout the states. He discussed his plans with immigration by declaring a national emergency at the border of the U.S. and Mexico, and allowing the deployment of armed forces. Two executive orders that received the most backlash from citizens were his declaration that the U.S. will only recognize two sexes, male and female, and a pardon on the January 6 siege on the U.S. Capitol in 2021.
There were a number of celebrities who attended the inauguration. Carrie Underwood performed her rendition of “America The Beautiful”. Due to technical difficulties with her soundtrack, she sang acappella. This years inauguration was held indoors, as the frigid temperatures proved to be unsuitable for the days activities. President Trump’s inaugural address promised national success with the expansion of U.S. territory and the end to foreign wars. Trump has a positive outlook on the next four years, claiming, “The golden age of America begins right now” in his second inaugural address.
President Trump’s inauguration was a success and carried out smoothly. The transition of power was considered historic due to Trump’s rare nonconsecutive terms.
