On March 3, 2026, students at Emerson Jr.-Sr. High School involved in the Student Council club took a trip to Memorial Elementary School to read fun stories for Read Across America!
If you are unfamiliar with this concept, National Read Across America Day is an annual reading event that inspires children across the country to celebrate reading on March 2nd.

Each high school student was assigned a classroom to visit. As they walked in, they introduced themselves and told the elementary students what they love most about reading.
Then, students sat down in small groups to read their stories, ask questions, and share lots of good laughs.
“I liked reading to the kids and seeing how happy they were listening to the book I was reading”, Nick Giella commented.
After getting through the stories, the high school students distributed exciting bookmarks for the elementary students to color and stick in their books.
“The elementary teachers and students truly enjoyed the visit. The teachers love seeing their former students return, and the younger children enjoy having the older students work with them,” said Mrs. Biondo.
It was a pleasure visiting Memorial Elementary! Go Cavos!
