How do Cavos celebrate the holiday season? What are their favorite traditions, foods, and places to travel? My sister, Amila, and I are celebrating our first Christmas and New Year’s Eve right here in Cavo Country, and we wanted to know what we have to look forward to, so we interviewed some fellow Cavos.
Ms. Cook, our math teacher, shared with us that she celebrates Christmas by going to her mom’s house for a big dinner of chicken, stuffing, mashed potatoes, veggies, cookies, and pies for dessert, including her favorite – pumpkin pie! After dinner, her family enjoys music while exchanging presents and talking through the night.
Regarding the holiday gifts, Ms. Cook says, “ I love finding the perfect gift for someone I care about. It’s so nice to see them get excited for something I made or put a lot of thought into.”
For a New Year’s celebration, Ms. Cook is looking forward to traveling to the Netherlands to visit loved ones, and she is hoping to find some time to sit by the fireplace and enjoy her favorite hobbies.
Seventh grader Samanya Panda says that her favorite Christmas dinner is lobster or steak followed by hot chocolate and her favorite gingerbread cookies. Although her family sometimes travels during the holidays, she is looking forward to staying home this year and says, “I have a good feeling that it will snow and I want a white Christmas sooooo bad this year.”
Samanya loves playing in the snow and making snowmen. On Christmas day she loves unwrapping her presents and seeing the paper go everywhere. She also enjoys the time we have off after Christmas to try out and enjoy the gifts she receives. Like Ms. Cook, she also loves giving presents because she loves to see the joy on her friends’ faces during the holidays.
My sister, Amila, and I are also hoping for a white Christmas this year and looking forward to making snowmen in the yard at our new house versus the public park near where we used to live. Also, those gingerbread cookies Samanya enjoys sound enticing. We’ve made gingerbread houses before but oddly enough, never tasted the gingerbread cookies! And just like Ms. Cook, we also traditionally enjoy a big roasted chicken dinner with some apple pie.
Our first Cavo Country Christmas will be very magical with many new friends and traditions. Here’s hoping your holiday will be magical too!
