Artificial Intelligence has had such a large impact on our society, especially in 2025. AI has been replacing jobs and opening up an entirely different side of the internet for people to interact with. Many people use AI daily; no matter what the scenario is, it is almost always used.
Students have been using Artificial Intelligence very heavily when it comes to schoolwork. This may be very convenient, but it
also causes many issues. Teachers and professors have been noticing excessive usage in students’ work, which means the work was not formed originally and was AI-generated. This raises the concern regarding students’ creativity and problem-solving skills. How will they develop those abilities when AI is doing all the heavy lifting?
Emerson Junior Senior High School has recently introduced an AI Assessment Scale (similar to the ones pictured) that teachers can use as a basis their work. There is a large difference between AI-guided and AI-generated. The problem is that many people are using AI to fully do the work for them instead of grabbing ideas from it, and personalizing those ideas to their liking.
It goes beyond the classroom, though.
In the workforce, adults have lost their jobs because AI is replacing many tasks that humans do. Imagine waking up and someone says to you, “Your position no longer matters because of an online platform.” This could be life-changing and upsetting. Technology isn’t obsolete. You are!
A member of my Journalism class, Daisy Schaefer, stated, “AI can be risky when it comes to work, and the consequences are even worse. People skills have been generated by AI, which takes away from many positions and individuals’ qualities.
Elon Musk said, “I always thought AI was going to be way smarter than humans and an existential risk. And that’s turning out to be true” (Altchek).
One of my classmates, John Piccirillo, stated, “AI is helpful to the community by almost serving as a knowledge assistant”.
But at what price?
Our generation relies heavily on technology and social media, affecting many different opinions and actions. AI truly has had a large impact on society and changing the way people work, think, and live. And there’s more to come.
