We’ve introduced so many new staff members this year!  Not long ago, I had the pleasure of getting to know our STEM teacher, Ms. Mawson!

While this is her first year at EHS, this is Mawson’s fourth year in the classroom.

“I’ve had a job teaching 5th grade and middle, and then I did high school, but I also spent some years in grad school,” she stated.

Before teaching, her career was quite different: “I’ve done physics research, astrophysics and biophysics, and then when I took a break from teaching, I did curriculum development.”

Her first impressions of EHS were during an interview, where she was impressed by the staff’s collaboration.  She stated that she has been helped greatly by Ms. Murphy and the school’s secretaries.

Her favorite high school subject was all science, but particularly physics.  Also, in her high school years, she sewed her own prom dress!

Mawson said that she’d describe herself as creative, dedicated, and reliable.

When asked for a saying she lived by, Mawson replied, “Don’t let school get in the way of your education. School is school, but learning is learning, they’re two different things, but learning is what keeps your brain growing.”

Mawson has stated she is optimistic about the comings of this school year.  “If it continues going the way it is, it’ll be great. We’re only going to get more opportunities to get hands on, and the quality of work and the commitment of my engineering students is inspiring me,” she says.

“I’m super happy to be here, and I’m grateful for all the help that all the other teachers and admin. have given me – and the secretaries. I’m really grateful that my students are starting to adjust to the way I teach.”

Overall, Ms. Mawson seems like the perfect addition to the EHS staff, and we are all so happy to have her!
