Marking period 2 ended this past Friday, the 23rd of January, at our own Emerson High School, officially marking the halfway point of the school year as students prepare to move into marking period 3.

The end of the second marking period represents a major academic milestone. With half of the school year now complete, students are finishing final assignments, receiving grades, feedback on their work, and reflecting on their progress so far.

For many, this point in the year brings mixed emotions. Some students feel relieved to have made it through the high-pressure part, while others feel motivated to rest and improve as the next marking period begins.

“It feels relieving but also a bit scary because it feels like the year is going by so fast,” said senior Kaylee Aguilera. 

Throughout marking period 2, students faced heavy workloads and packed schedules. Balancing schoolwork with extracurricular activities and responsibilities outside of school became challenging for many as the semester progressed.

“College applications and decisions have definitely added pressure and stress during this marking period,” Kaylee said.

For seniors, reaching the halfway point carries added significance. With graduation approaching and college and scholarship decisions becoming more finalized, grades from marking period 2 can play an important role in transcripts and future opportunities.

Teachers encourage students to view marking period 3 as a chance for growth rather than stress. Adjusting study habits, staying organized, and setting realistic goals can help students manage the remainder of the school year more effectively.

As marking period 2 came to a close this Friday, students not only wrapped up another grading period but it also marked a clear turning point – half the year complete, with the finish line now in reach.
