This week is when AP students take an exam called a quarterly around the end of each marking period. This is a College Board level exam where students are tested on the units and lessons of an AP class. Usually, these AP quarterlies will give students a certain amount of time to complete the exam. Quarterlies eventually lead to the final exam to test students on the AP classes they have taken. These final exams will be scored from 0-5, and – depending on their scores – students have the opportunity to receive college credits.
Taking AP classes can be helpful in the long run because it gives students a chance to see how challenging a college-level course can be. It can also help to defray the cost of college.
Here’s some advice from AP students who have been taking these quarterlies. They’ve recommended helpful tools and study tips.
Naomi Shikatani, an AP student, said, “I think that Knowt and AP Classroom are the most helpful when I study for my quarterlies.”
Furthermore, Naomi explained how important it is to be prepared for these exams, “I would say that you should definitely start studying a week in advance since it’s the end of the marking period and teachers will start to give you a lot of tests and quizzes. This will also help so that you can study for shorter amounts of time each day, but still feel prepared. You can also see if your teacher will tell you what to study or what the format of the quarterly will be.”
Another AP student, Maddy Kim, added, “I stay organized, take breaks, and get enough sleep.” Also, Maddy suggested, “Don’t cram, and ask teachers for help when needed.”
These AP students have taken on the challenge of college-level classes, but even though these classes are hard, the work, effort, and dedication is shown to be worth it.
