Music is the best form of expressing yourself. From K-pop to Reggae music, there are plenty of genres, artists, and songs that you can deep dive into. Certain people have a preference for what they enjoy listening to (like me), but hearing the same songs over and over again can be repetitive. If you branch out to something new, you could really expand your music taste!
When hanging out with friends, I realized that we all have different tastes in music. Blasting through my friend’s car speakers is typical country music, including Luke Bryan and Morgan Wallen. In contrast, you can always find Drake and Don Toliver shuffled in my playlist! Country music isn’t my thing, but even though our music tastes are diverse, it makes us unique that we can share our music choices with one another.
On the topic of different perspectives in music, here’s one from musician Jack Roig:

He explains, “My favorite genre, right now, is emo bands like Marietta, Merchant Ships, etc. Most music in those genres sounds un-produced and raw, but I love it because the grittiness can make you feel linked to the lyrics and music in general. To me, music is anything with a beat or melody that can make you feel something, whether it’s just a rhythm to get into or a connection to music itself.”
Jack plays guitar and sings for the School of Rock located in Cresskill, New Jersey. He and his bandmates perform at different bars and events all over Bergen County and go on tour in the summer. For him, it feels like a dream come true to go on stage and see people enjoying their show.
Jack Roig admits, “Being a part of a band isn’t just about the music or loading gear, it’s about the connections you make through it.”
Shifting gears, a significant part of music is concerts, where you can see your favorite artists up close and support them by attending their shows.
Jack expresses, “Concerts are a huge thing for me. I love feeling the sound encapsulating the entire room, everyone losing it over the same people who share all the same feelings as the crowd.”
Music unites us all through shared experiences and emotions; there are endless possibilities it has to offer!
