On October 9th, 2025, juniors and seniors will compete against each other in Powderpuff! If you are unaware, Powderpuff is a tradition where girls play flag football, and the boys become cheerleaders to encourage school spirit!

The juniors are putting in the work to take the win; they have had a few practices so far, learning offense, defense, and various other plays from their football coach, Brandon Mathews.
On the other hand, the boys are working hard, learning cheers to pump up the crowd and perfect their halftime routine.
Brandon Mathews explained, “At practice, we run through each individual play in our playbook, we do some drills, and we teach the girls how to play football. A highlight at practice so far has to be this past practice, where we learned our whole defense and finished our offensive plays. This has really helped us, so we are prepared for Thursday’s game.”
He is very confident about his team winning since they have great chemistry at practice, and they take the time to understand the plays!
Coach of the boys’ cheer team, Lily Downing, said, “ The boys are very excited to be rooting for their female football players! So far, they are practicing their stunts, tumbling, prep extensions, and we are working on baskets (throwing each other up in the air and catching them). For cheers, they are working on coordination, and they are ready to get fired up!”
Demetra Koutsothanasis, a player on the girls’ football team, added, “I enjoy playing in Powderpuff because it allows me to spend time with friends while having fun playing football! Also, I’m excited to participate in Powderpuff next year because even if we lose, we still get a chance to win next year!”
We will see which grade takes the win! This event is great to come out and show your Cavo pride with friends! Let’s go, Juniors!
