Our class officers do so much for the Sophomore Class, and it is greatly appreciated. However, the last election was held in the previous year. Since it’s been a year, you know what that means….time for this year’s election!
The election is very important because we are essentially choosing people to represent our grade. In the past year, we have had a variety of events going on with the help of the class officers’ planning – events such as bake sales, field trips, fundraisers, and many other fun activities for the students to enjoy and represent the Sophomore Class.
To get some insight on students running in this election, Jackie Asitimbay explained what position she’s running for and why. She said, “I am running for the treasurer position because over the last two years I have been in this position I have enjoyed keeping things in order. So far, the fundraisers I have thought of have been successful and have only benefited our Class of 2027. I also want to add more fundraisers that will involve more people from our grade. I plan to use our money wisely, but also make sure our junior and senior years are not so hectic, and that we are all paying a reasonable amount, and, for that to be done, fundraising is important – especially if we want many field trips in our senior year.”
Jackie added her future plans for after the election as well, “For future plans, I plan to keep our bake sale fundraisers since they have been a success, and we make over $100 each time. I also plan to add a movie night since the Board and I were trying to include it for this year, but we were not able to go through with it. Since our senior year is coming up too, I plan to make that our best year and make sure we all enjoy our last year at EHS. I plan to have a Six Flags trip, a visit to the Bronx Zoo, senior sunrise, and any other fun activities we could do towards the end of senior year. Finally, I plan to use our money more wisely since there was a little incident with it during the most recent field trip. I want to make sure it does not happen for future trips.”

Running for class president, Brandon Matthews explained how he feels running for the first time, “I feel excited and a little nervous about running for class president because it’s a big opportunity to make a difference. I’m proud to take this step and ready to give it my best effort. Since this is my first time running, everything feels new and a bit overwhelming. But I’m also motivated to learn, grow, and show what I can bring to our class.”
Last, but certainly not least, Mia Woodward expressed her excitement for this election and what position she’s running for and why. She said, “For this election, I am running for vice president because I’ve been vice president for the last two years. I am excited for this upcoming election because I’ve noticed that we have more people running, and it will be exciting to see what others running would like to do to make a difference for our grade!”
We love to see that many people are excited to get involved with school events for this election here at Emerson! Even if students in the Sophomore Class are not running, they’re getting ready to vote for the people of their choice to represent the grade! Go Cavos!
