When pitcher Sophia Centeno was asked, “What was a big highlight of this years softball season?” she said, “Beating River Dell was a key game for us.”
Seeded 11th, The Cavos made the Bergen County Tournament but had a tough loss in the preliminary round to Becton 1-0. They automatically entered the Bergen Invitational Tournament in the first round beating Holy Angels 4-1. The Cavos had 11 hits and Sofia Centeno on the mound had 7 strike outs.
In the Quarterfinal Round, The Cavos beat Fair Lawn 4-1. Brielle Schumeyer went 2-3 and Sofia Centeno on the mound had 5 strike outs. Unfortunately, The Cavos had another tough loss this time to Paramus losing 2-1 in the Semifinal Round. The Cavos had 7 hits and Sophia Centeno on the mound had 6 strike outs.
The number 5 Cavos played number 12 Midland Park at home in the first round of the New Jersey Section 1 Group 1 NJSIAA Tournament on May 28th.
Sophia was also asked, “What do you think you need to do to win this year’s state tournament?” she said, “we need to dig deep and go one game at a time.”
If The Cavos continue to play hard both in the field and at the plate, they should have no problem advancing to the next round in the tournament.
