The Emerson Cavos began their season with a very rough start. With a tough schedule facing lots of group 2, 3, and 4, schools, as a small group 1 school, Emerson started off their first half of the season 2-9. They then began to fine tune some things, and were able to win 7 in a row bringing their record to .500 and giving them the momentum to bring into the State Tournament. The Cavos currently sit at 11-14 before entering the Tournament.
Here’s what Cavo players Tony Rinkiewicz and John Piccirillo had to say about the season and upcoming tournament.
When Tony was asked, “How do you personally prepare for a big game?”, he responded by saying, “I like to treat it like most other games, and not try to change anything, and know that I need to go out and play as hard as I can”.
He also had some comments about the attitude the team needs to bring into the tournament. He added, “We need to go into every game knowing it is winnable and we can compete with any team, focusing on one game at a time is important as you can never have enough runs in States.”
Here’s what starting left fielder and pitcher John Piccirillo had to say about the team’s strengths: “We have a lot of players who want to win, we have amazing defense, and our bats are dangerous when they get hot. We just need to be really aggressive when the tournament comes around.”
The Cavos know where they stand; they know they can compete with anyone in their group, and if they bring the right energy and play hard, they have a great chance at making an amazing run in this tournament.
