With the Italian 1 course leaving the school, that means that a new course is coming in.
The new course is… Engineering 1! The description is as follows:
“This introductory course immerses students in real-world problem-solving through the engineering/design process. Utilizing tools such as 3D printers and laser cutters, students engage in project-based learning to design, prototype, and refine solutions. The curriculum emphasizes collaboration, critical thinking, and technical skills, preparing students for success in post-secondary education and careers in STEM fields. By integrating hands-on experiences with foundational engineering principles, the course fosters marketable skills and a mindset geared toward innovation and continuous improvement.”
This course will be available to all high school students, and it will count toward the 21st Century Learning credit requirement, which requires 5 credits for “Life and Careers.”
During the 2025-26 school year, this new course will be available. An Engineering 2 course might be on the way, but it hasn’t yet been decided. Mr. Hutchinson has sent out an email to all eligible students with a link to a student interest form, so you’d better hope you didn’t delete that email. Don’t worry if you did delete it, because your guidance counselor will be happy to help you enroll.
Both Engineering 1 and 2 will be full-year courses; students who take both courses will be eligible to apply for internships.
Mr. Hutchinson said, “I can see that this course will be something that truly adds value to your education. If you like learning about how things work, this course might be for you.”
