National Nurses Week is celebrated from May 6th to May 12th every year, and National School Nurses Day is always celebrated on the Wednesday of that week. So, that means that National School Nurses Day is today, May 7th.
The role of a school nurse is to assess the severity of illness or injury in students, while also treating them and making them feel comfortable. Our Nurse, Barbara Reineke, goes above and beyond to ensure the health and physical well-being of the students.
Nurse Reineke says, “I love the profession of nursing, and I like to help the students and staff while building those connections with them.”
The connection between students and the school nurses needs to be strong, because nurses sometimes have to offer healthcare advice/resources to families. Some school nurses have hard times building these relationships with students, but Nurse Reineke definitely doesn’t.
Everyone needs breaks sometimes, and she’s definitely aware. She says, “Sometimes everyone needs a time out, and I’m glad that they feel like the nurse’s office is a safe place for them to come.”
Thankfully, the students truly appreciate her for it. Nurse Reineke can confirm that she and the students have a strong connection, which is why they are so comfortable coming to her for a break every now and then.
Her best piece of advice to anyone in nursing is, “Treat everyone like you’d want someone close to you to be treated.” She knows this all too well, because she also has three children.
Many people on the website mother.ly can agree that becoming a mother can make someone more empathetic, and that motherhood can change people for the better in terms of morality.
So, it’s very understandable that Nurse Reineke can build better relationships with teenagers, because she’s raised three of them. It’s very important that we thank her today for everything she’s done, and that nothing she does goes unnoticed.
