Friday, April 11th, 2025, was the seniors’ final pep rally. It was the perfect way to end the week and kick off the start of spring break.
At the Spring Pep Rally last year, a tradition began: the team that won the volleyball tournament would go head to head with a select group of teachers. Biology teacher Mr. Dunn made his mark last year as a star player. This year, he was ready to carry on his legacy.
He explains his experience at this year’s pep rally, “Playing volleyball has been a lot of fun the past two years. I think it’s good to have some friendly competition, especially with some of the seniors before they go, and it gets pretty intense sometimes, but it was definitely a lot of fun!”
Before the volleyball game, all grade levels were seated in the bleachers. Each spring sports team walked in together, as announced. The senior captains from Track and Field, Baseball, Softball, Lacrosse, and Tennis each took the mic to reflect on the season so far, thanking coaches, teammates, and athletic directors for their support.
One of the messiest and most entertaining parts of the rally was the watermelon-eating contest. With their hands behind their backs, Mr. McKinstry, Mr. Lee, Jake Mancino, Nate Leuck, Matt Sabatella, and Mikey Graf all competed to see who could eat the watermelon the fastest. Mr. Lee finished as the champion after a very competitive round.
Also, there were relay races where a team of students from different grade levels was up against a team of teachers. They raced through a series of crazy challenges, which started with spinning around ten times with their forehead pressed to a bat. After the dizziness, they had to move on to the jump rope part, often getting their feet stuck and stumbling. Lastly, they had to balance an egg on a spoon while walking to the finish line. Everyone watched, seeing whether the students or teachers would come out with the win.
Furthermore, there was also the 2nd Annual Rock Paper Scissors Competition! The winner from each Cavo Strong group represented their group in the school-wide competition. The amount of students in the middle of the gym got smaller and smaller as students got eliminated. Eventually, there was one student left: 8th grader Rosey Schaefer. She shared, “I was very surprised that I actually made it that far, but it was very fun winning and going against the last two people.”
All in all, this pep rally was definitely one to remember! It is evident that here, at Emerson, we know how to have a good time while showing school spirit – thanks to the administration!
