The Boys’ Tennis team for Emerson Junior/Senior High School started this month on March 10th. I know you’re thinking, why should I care? Well, I’ll tell you why. This year our team has a seasoned tennis pro among them – me, Zephania Rothstein. I’ve been playing tennis for over a decade, and my teammates are all very excited to have me – I hope.
The team also has seven other athletes: Ethan Amaral, Jacob Murphy, Angel Ponce-Montes, Danilo Radulovic, Jeffrey Adams, TJ Rice, and Captain Michael Deorio. Michael, Jacob, and Ethan are returning players (it’s their second year), but everyone else is new. New or not, we are eagerly awaiting the chance to show off our skills.
Honestly, I’m excited to be playing tennis on a team. Normally, I just play casual matches with whoever is around. I’m hoping to go all the way to the end. Naturally, that will take more than just me, but I have hope that our coaches can help us do it.
Coach Schama said he’s,”…excited for a promising season with a dedicated team”, and added that, “…the tennis program welcomes all Cavos to come out, give it a try, and discover their potential on the court.”
Assistant Coaches Melanie Brentnall and Sean Smith are equally optimistic.
Assistant Coach Melanie Bretnall shared, “The tennis team has been hard at work on the courts preparing for our upcoming season. We are excited to get our season started with our first match on the 31st! As a coach, I have great confidence that the boys’ hard work will pay off with a successful season.”
As for me, I too believe that this tennis season will be great – especially because of my teammates. I’ve yet to see them in action, but I have faith in their abilities, and I know they’re lucky to have me.
Okay, we’re lucky to have each other – especially our Captain, Michael DeOrio, who said, “I am very excited for the upcoming season as the captain. I look forward to working with new players with developing their skills and ensuring that everyone has a good experience overall. We are ready to do our best and represent our school.”
Jeffery Adams admitted he is “a little excited but also nervous” for the coming season. When asked about his teammates, Jeffery stated that, “They’re pretty chill and seem nice. They’ve given me several pieces of advice already.” He claims that the thing he’s most excited about for this season is getting better.
So get excited for the inevitable trophy that we athletes will win for our school, and don’t be afraid to show your school spirit.
Have a good day and GO CAVOS!
