Last year, the team ended with a pretty good record of 19-6. Sadly, they lost their home opener in a hard-fought game against Pompton Lakes with the final score 2-1. After that game, the Cavos got into the flow and beat Hackensack, Hasbrouck Heights, Midland Park, and Park Ridge in a row. They then lost against Ridgewood and Demarest but went on an 11 game win streak after that.
The Cavos shocked everyone by becoming one of the Group 1 teams to get a bye in the Bergen County Tournament in years. They went against Hackensack and after a hard fought game, they came up short and ended the game 3-2. After that, they played New Milford and came up short again and lost 5-4. They then went on a 4-win streak against Dumont, Cresskill, Waldwick, and Park Ridge. The state tournament was now up and they were placed against Mountain Lakes. They unfortunately ended their season losing 6-4.
With winter sports coming to an end, the Emerson Cavos are now heading into the spring sports season. For years, Emerson Baseball has been a strength, with the most Group 1 state titles, and some amazing achievements each year. With a staff of all former Emerson baseball alumni, the honor and dedication the coaches, and players put into the team is outstanding. With only two seniors this year, the Cavos are eager to see how the season will play out.
Although a lot of players have graduated, the Cavos do have a lot of returning players for this upcoming baseball season.
Emerson baseball player Tony Rinkiewicz says, “I’m excited for the upcoming season, a lot of big games to prove ourselves of being a winning team.”
Emerson upcoming sophomore Dom Megale says, “Being a baseball player for the Cavos means a lot to me, there’s nothing more I want than the team to be successful.”
