From Cavo Land to Neverland, the Emerson Junior Senior High School Theater is performing its rendition of the famous musical Peter Pan. Intricate sets, behind-the-scenes outfit changes, and flying actors are just a few of the features that will bring this classic story to life.
Directed by Mr. and Mrs. Ullman, the cast and crew have dedicated hours of their time to carefully crafting the play. With practices ranging from 3-6 pm (and sometimes even 10 pm) on school days, and even longer practices on Saturdays, everyone has shown immense commitment and effort.
Led by Ms. Correll, the lively orchestra brings music, energy, and emotion to the play and will certainly capture the attention of the audience.
You can also expect to see a few of your favorite teachers taking part (and joy) in the play.
The most exciting part, however, is that for the first time in Emerson history, the play is going to include flying! With Wendy, Michael, and John soaring above the stage, the audience is sure to be immersed in the experience. ZFX Flying Effects is sharing their expertise on incorporating flying into a production with Emerson’s theater crew. The crew is learning how to navigate the ropes, and make sure that the cast is safe as they sail across the stage!
Mr. Ullman shared, “I think the audience will be most impressed by Peter Pan, Wendy, and Michael flying. It will definitely be a surprising aspect of the play.”
Not surprising is the amount of work that goes on behind the scenes, such as the creation of sets, which you can credit to Mr. Monchino. The sets have been painted in a dual effort between crew and cast members, and are also moved behind the scenes by stage crew. Among their many responsibilities, the crew also makes sure that lighting and sound are intact so that audiences can see and hear the show at its best.
One of the cast’s very own, Madison Ostroff, who plays Peter Pan, has also created the costumes for Wendy, Peter, and Jane for the play. Joining her is Olive Karathomas, also playing Peter Pan, and together they’re taking their acting abilities to new heights – literally!
Tickets for the production can be bought online, as well as in person. Make sure to grab your tickets quickly, as a limited amount of seats will be available for purchase at the door. Tickets cost $10 per person for students and senior citizens, and $20 per person for adults.
