As Thanksgiving gets closer the aroma of roasted turkey and pumpkin pie fills the air, and families gather together to celebrate. This is a cherished holiday celebrated with gratitude and joy in the United States and Canada. Families and friends come together to give thanks for the year’s blessings, partaking in traditional activities such as feasting on turkey, watching parades, and enjoying football games. The origins of Thanksgiving date back to the early 17th century when the Pilgrims and Native Americans shared a feast to celebrate a successful harvest.
Thanksgiving is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November. America emphasizes the importance of giving thanks to their communities. Whether through feasts or spending quality time with family members, Thanksgiving is a reminder of connection and appreciation.
CJ Aguliar states, “The most important part of Thanksgiving to me is spending time with family and shoving down as much food as possible!” He explains that he enjoys spending quality time with his family and eating food. The tradition of sharing meals prepared with love and care shows the importance of good food and appreciating it to make the holiday special.
“I bring this game called ‘The Saran Wrap Ball.’ We put items like money, gift cards, and more inside and wrap them up with Saran Wrap. Then, we all gather in a room and try to unwrap the item. The catch is that you only have 20 seconds until the next person’s turn,” said Lily Downing. As you can see, she shares a tradition with her family. Many families across the United States have different traditions that they carry on each year and onto the next generation. This time together strengthens family bonds and creates long-lasting memories!
As we gather around the table this Thanksgiving, let’s remember that the true essence of the holiday lies in gratitude, togetherness, and creating cherished memories with our loved ones. Whether it’s sharing a delicious meal, playing games, or simply enjoying each other’s company, these moments are what make this holiday truly special. Happy Thanksgiving!
