New York baseball fans have had a wild MLB season. Both teams are going on amazing playoff runs, consisting of the most unexpected seasons the MLB has seen in a while.
The New York Mets finished their season with 89 wins and 73 losses finishing third in the National League East standings. After starting the season 22-23, the Mets realized things needed to flip. In what seemed like a normal regular season game, the Mets began with a ceremonial first pitch featuring the world famous Mcdonald’s mascot, Grimace. The Mets won that game and birthed their 7-game win streak, which would spark the team’s .622 win percentage since the game Grimace threw out the first pitch, and eventually lead them to clinch the wild card on the last day of the regular season against the Atlanta Braves.
The Mets’ season consisted of numerous laughs, and memorable moments consisting of mid-season call up Jose Iglesias releasing hit song “OMG” that rose to the top of the Latin music charts within days of its release.
The Mets kept their fans on edge the entire season, and did not stop doing so in the postseason. When the Mets and Milwaukee Brewers were tied 1-1 in the NL East Wild Card Series, fans were starting to lose hope when the Mets were down in the 9th inning of game three, until veteran Pete Alonso hit a go ahead 2 run home run, to win the Mets the game.
The Mets went on to beat the Phillies in the NLDS, in a wild series, where in game four, the last home game of the series, Captain Francisco Lindor hit a go ahead grand slam to give the Mets the lead, and win the series advancing the the NLCS against Superstar athlete Shohei Ohtani and the Los Angeles Dodgers. Sadly for the Mets, this was the end of their run, after losing the series 4 games to 2 ending their postseason run.
The New York Yankees went through a roller coaster of a season. Starting the season with the best record in baseball making them the highest favorite to walk out of the season with their 28th championship ring. With power hitters like Aaron Judge and Juan Soto and Giancarlo Stanton , and contact weapons like Gleyber Torres and Anthony Volpe, some people claim this team as the truly best and Yankee fans had serious hope for their team.
With a few weeks before the All-Star game, fans started to get worried, it was loss, after loss, after loss, and it felt like things were crashing down on the Yankees. But a few weeks after the all star break towards the trade deadline, the Yankees needed to make a move. Brian Cashman came through making a trade for star player Jazz Chisolm, Jr. from the Miami Marlins. This is what the Yankees needed: A power threat that can basically play anywhere on the field. Yankee fans got their spark back. With pitchers Carlos Rodon and Yankee ace Gerrit Cole pitching very well, including their talented bullpen, the Yankees made it to September 18th.
The Yankees traveled to Seattle to face the Mariners in an intense game. The Yankees got the win, and clinched a postseason berth for the seventh time in the past eight years. The Yankees went on a fantastic postseason run, winning the American League division series, and American League championship series. But sadly for the Dodgers, the Yankees got embarrassed in the World Series, dropping to 3-0 in the series, then winning a game to make it 3-1, and then losing the series in game five of the series.
