The Emerson High School Girls Volleyball team hosted Dig Pink, a Breast Cancer Awareness event on October 1st, 2024, to support those affected by breast cancer. The team worked hard to decorate the gym and put in their best efforts to make the event a success.
Breast cancer is a significant illness that affects millions globally. The Emerson Girls Volleyball team aimed to raise support for people affected by this illness. They put in a lot of effort to raise funds for those in need.
“We set up a link so you can directly support the Breast Cancer Awareness website. We also made shirts that we sold to raise money for the cause,” explained Demi Graham.
She and the team wanted to raise funds to donate to people facing breast cancer. They partnered with the Side-Out Foundation, collecting donations and selling shirts for $20, with all proceeds going directly to breast cancer awareness initiatives. The Side-Out Foundation was inspired by the founder’s mother’s battle with cancer. They use volleyball as a way to bring communities together, and support those affected by breast cancer. The name “Dig Pink” reflects their mission to raise funds and awareness through volleyball events.
Demi Graham mentioned that other schools are part of this event as well, including those from surrounding towns like Westwood, Park Ridge, and Midland Park.
Mariana Ceylan added, “Dig Pink can really make a difference in a town by bringing the community together for a common cause.”
By combining sports, community involvement, and education, Dig Pink effectively raises awareness and support for breast cancer in Emerson.
