A new 7/11 opened on June 28, 2024 on Kinderkamack Ave in Emerson, only 0.5 miles from the popular QuickChek.
Before the opening of 7/11, Emerson high schoolers and middle schoolers spent their free time around the QuickChek in the center of town due to its convenience, as it is close to other stores like Marshalls and Starbucks. Because Emerson is a small town, students often found themselves mingling around the same few areas.
QuickChek became a hot spot for younger crowds to grab a quick snack and sit down. With inside seating and a variety of food and drink selections, QuickChek has drawn in an influx of customers. After football games or school events, many have found themselves walking to QuickChek to hang out with their friends. But after so many years of being such a part of the Emerson experience, will 7/11 overtake QuickChek’s prevalence?
The grand opening of Emerson’s 7/11 has proven to be a success. Many intrigued passersby have explored the modern appearance of the building and enjoyed merchandise the store has to offer. 7/11 has been gaining attention from the high schoolers and middle schoolers because of its close proximity to the school.
While this gives 7/11 the upper hand, there is no seating available and fewer parking spaces. As 7/11 has risen in popularity, fewer people have become drawn to QuickChek. With this, it can be inferred that 7/11 is at pace to replace QuickChek’s running record as the place to be.
Emerson High School senior Amelia Teigen exclaimed, “7/11 is the more revamped version of QuickChek. My friends and I usually go to QuickChek because it has a larger selection, but 7/11 is cleaner and nicer overall.”
Eighth grader, Ethan Shelton, expressed his thoughts on the topic, “I like 7/11 better because it has more variety of food and drinks. My friends and I hang out there more.”
Evidently, students have mixed opinions on their preference of the two. In the end, which convenience store will prevail?
