John Wick: Chapter 4

Delilah Travers, Writer

As someone with a huge bias towards the John Wick movies, take my review with a grain of salt. I’m a huge fan of the intricacy of the fight scenes, and Keanu Reeves’ seemingly-effortless performance – time and time again.

On the opening night of John Wick: Chapter Four, my dad, brother, and I went for a spontaneous late-night viewing. Recently, I re-watched all of the previous John Wick movies with my brother, and my dad watched them as well when he had free time. We are all really big fans, so when we heard there was a new movie, we just had to go.

This movie was highly anticipated for us, and we bothered my mom with talk of action and gore. The movie does not disappoint. If you love suspense and action, this is definitely the movie for you.

John Wick works towards defeating The High Table (a council made up of twelve crime lords who rule the underworld), and it’s no easy feat.  One noteworthy scene is a fight scene with the new character Akira (played by Rina Sawayama). My main, if not only, criticism is that Akira has such a minimal screen time. I think her character isn’t utilized enough, but the movie is absolutely still worth the watch.

John Wick, to me, is a movie that simply can’t be bad with great actors (like Scott Adkins, Donnie Yen, Lance Reddick, and Rina Sawayama), and a great director (Chad Stahelski).  It is a recipe for magic. I highly recommend this movie, and have even made my yearbook quote “Be seeing you” (taken as inspiration from one of the earlier movies).

Action lovers, I recommend watching starting with the first movie until you get to the last. If you happen to not be a fan of the most recent movie, and you love action, you most certainly will take a liking to at least one of the earlier adaptations.
