Criminal Minds Review

Criminal Minds is a procedural crime drama from CBS that has five seasons. It ran from 2005 to 2020, and is currently available on Hulu. It follows a group of criminal profilers on the Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) of the FBI, which tries to solve crimes and find suspects which are known as the “unsub” by analyzing behavior. The series focuses on one crime per episode, but also has storylines that take place throughout multiple episodes. Also, it features many subplots and storylines relating to the main cast, such as plots about the profilers’ personal lives.

The series’ main characters are Derek Morgan, Dr. Spencer Reid, Aaron Hotchner, Penelope Garcia, Jennifer Jareau, David Rossi, and Emily Prentiss. Many of the characters in Criminal Minds are extremely relatable to viewers. The BAU tracks down serial killers, terrorists, and dangerous people in each episode trying investigate the evidence from the crime scenes, compose a profile, and try to prevent the unsub from escalating their crimes.

The best part about this show is how versatile the crimes are. Some of them are very realistic, and are based on events that can actually happen, while others are extremely bizarre and sound insane – making it stand out from other shows. Criminal Minds gives its audience the opportunities to understand the criminals it features, and delve deep into the psychopathic mind.

Each episode gradually intensifies with every crime progressively getting worse, and is about a different crime with a different unsub, which is the unknown perpetrator of a crime.. The show connects the crimes of serial killers, and leaves the audience members feeling connected somewhat to the criminals, having an understanding of why they are the way they are, and why these crimes have been committed by them. This makes the show so much more interesting because you are not just seeing these criminals being stopped, you are finding out their backstories and what is going on inside their heads or throughout their lives leading them to commit these crimes.

Criminal Minds‘ highest rated episode is Season 2, Episode 15 “Revelations.” It features Tobias Hankel, a killer with multiple personalities who has kidnapped Dr. Spencer Reid, beat him, drugged him and psychologically tortured him. (SPOILERS!) The character is so memorable because Hankel is both a killer and a victim, and when Reid is forced to kill it stays with the BAU member for a very long time, and causes him a lot of trauma.

Criminal Minds has so much to offer and is a phenomenal show, but you should just investigate it and find out for yourselves.
