The Giving Tree – Tagged for Kindness

Have you noticed the holiday decorations in our front lobby?  They’re more than festive, they’re helpful!  What you see is not just an artificial tree, what you see before you is The Giving Tree!

The Giving Tree is a charity event, and its proceeds go to the Ronald McDonald House. The Ronald McDonald House is a big house placed next to hospitals for housing poor families of sick children. It is free of charge, and serves millions of children each year.

The Student Council started The Giving Tree in order to donate basic necessities such as paper towels, socks etc. and even snacks. You can see the ornament shaped pieces of paper dangling from each tree branch.  They may seem like requests for simple items, but they truly are gifts to those who need them.

The Ronald McDonald House is an extremely trustworthy charity, and has been around for a total of 48 years now. At the end of the charity event, the Student Council will be dropping off all of the donations and then make breakfast for the kids that morning.

Senior Faith Rivers explained, “We do it every year and every year it goes to the Ronald McDonald House. Usually, whatever donation items that are on the tags on the tree are given to the house, sometimes more.”

Consider taking one of those paper ornaments home and bringing back a little something to give someone a little holiday cheer!
