Young Royals: A Must Watch

Young Royals: A Must Watch

Season two of Netflix’s original series, Young Royals, dropped on November 1st at 12am for fans all around the world. This drama, which was produced by Martin Soder and Lisa Eyre, and originally dropped on July 1, 2021, has been a huge hit, especially amongst the LGBTQ+ community. Fans have pointed out that most Netflix shows, or shows in general, do not accurately portray the struggles that teens face when exploring their sexuality, but this show does exactly that.

Not only does this phenomenal show provide representation for the LGBTQ+ community, but it also captures the realistic experiences that occur in friendships and family relationships, which is something everyone can find a way to relate to.

Season one of Young Royals introduces the life of a 16 year old boy, Wilhelm, who is played by Edvin Ryding. He is part of the royal family of Sweden and after getting involved in a fight, his parents decide to send him to a prestigious private school. During his first few days there, he meets a number of people, some which end up becoming his closest friends. He also meets 16 year old Simon, who is played by Omar Rudberg, and they soon fall in love. Of course, their romantic relationship causes a lot of drama that you would have to find out for yourself.

Season two elaborates more on their story, with many twists and turns. Though the Wilhelm and Simon storyline is the main plot in the show, there are numerous other characters and stories that viewers can decide to shift their attention to.

Young Royals does an amazing job at portraying real life experiences of teens, while also using actors that fit the characters perfectly. In many instances, shows such as Euphoria use adult actors who are over 21 years old to act as teenage high schoolers. This causes shows to have an unrealistic feel to them, which numerous viewers do not enjoy.

Also, as said before, it shows the true experiences of teens when figuring out their sexuality. Movies and shows often portray LGBTQ+ relationships inaccurately, making them seem as if no problems arise from them. They do not express the hatred that one may actually experience throughout these kinds of relationships.

Considering the main character in the show is a part of a royal family, you would expect the entire thing to be absurd, but nothing is ever over exaggerated. In fact, it actually gives an exciting twist to the whole storyline. It is a unique situation that no other creator has ever been able to put into a show.

I definitely recommend Young Royals to anyone who wants to have a good “NO WAY” moment.
