November 2022 Global Health Update

Jake Jodzio

The flu and Covid are rising again because of the cold weather. Many doctors are recommending washing your hands more often, and trying to clean more to stay safe. Doctors also recommend staying home when you feel sick, and avoiding contact with other people as much as you can to keep from spreading your illness to others.

It’s always a good idea to rest and drink lots of fluids, cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze, or cough or sneeze into your sleeve. You should also wash your hands often, with soap and water, or use a hand sanitizer. If necessary, take medicine to reduce fever, and watch for symptoms of more serious illness.

Dr. Lamsaw from the Minnesota Health Department says, “Most people are sick with the flu and Covid for 3-5 days, and get better on their own, but if not you should see a doctor as soon as possible.”  This is because it could be a different illness with more serious symptoms.

According to The New York Times, Covid has also been rising in the last seven days; there have been 480 Covid cases in Bergen County.

Stay safe and healthy, Cavos!
