EMERSON, NJ – New Coach for Girls Soccer Team

Coach Amanda Vietri takes on her first season as head coach for the Emerson Girls Soccer Team.

Emerson soccer fans will likely have noticed a new face on the sidelines of the girls varsity soccer games. This year’s the girls soccer team is being coached by Emerson math teacher, Ms. Vietri. While this is her first year coaching soccer at Emerson, Coach Vietri brings a wealth of knowledge experience of playing the sport to the team.

“I played soccer from 1st grade all the way through college. I played for my high school team, 4 year varsity, and went on to play goalie at Montclair State University,” said Coach Vietri.

Before Vietri took the position as head coach, she was the coach for the JV and Freshman teams. This was a big step in responsibility for Vietri as she took charge of the whole program, consisting of 37 players.

“Being in charge of not just the varsity team, but the JV team as well has been a bump in responsibility. Scheduling games and making sure we are submitted for counties has been much more of a responsibility,” said Vietri.

The girls team had already played their highly anticipated game against their rival team, Park Ridge, which ended in an unfortunate loss on their own turf. However, Coach Vietri believes this game can be a learning lesson for when the team faces their rival a second time later in the season.

Vietri believed the biggest issue were the high nerves at the first 20 minutes of the game. She wants the girls to use their nerves in a better and more productive way. “We can beat them for sure but we just got to play our game instead of letting our nerves get the best of us,” said Vietri.

As every new coach would have, Coach Vietri has a few goals she would like to accomplish for her first season.

“If we could end up being over .500 on the year, that would also be a very successful first year and a successful season for you girls as well,” said Vietri. Some of Vietri’s biggest goals is to not let up goals off of free kicks or corners. The team is working on this game by game.

Come out and support Coach Vietri and the Girls Soccer Team as they go to Pascack Valley on October 23rd at 2:00pm. Good luck to the team on the rest of their season!
