I think that students should be allowed to have their phones in class for necessary reasons. Students use their phones to contact their friends and families. Some people could be using their phones to talk to their family if something is going on at home and their parents do not feel comfortable contacting the main office. 

Even though some students do use it for other reasons to distract them, I believe that if they choose not to pay attention then that is on them, and it is only hurting themselves in the long run. 

Although some teachers may think that students are distracted by their phones, many could be using it for educational reasons. Phones also give students an opportunity to use educational learning apps during class. 

According to Oxford Learning, “Cell phones give students access to tools and apps that can help them complete and stay on top of their class work. These tools can also teach students to develop better study habits, like time management and organization skills.”

Another reason why some students should be able to use their phone during class is to be able to get easy access to more information, especially if it is blocked on their computer.

Phones are also used for emergencies. KwikBoost, which is a charging kiosk, states, “There are a number of emergency levels that constitute different threats. Whether a student left their essay at home and they need to call a parent to bring it in or if there is an intruder on campus posing a threat to the safety of all students, having a powered cell phone can help prevent a disaster from getting worse.”

Some students use their phones during class to text their friends for help on the assignment that they are doing in class if they are not sure what they are doing. Phones are also used to be able to contact a parent to know how someone is getting home, who they are going home with, and where they will be going after school.
