The MLB season has drastically changed this season and has not stopped any players from playing their best. Players are used to having 162 games each season, but the number was cut down this year to 60. In addition to this, teams are used to having their stadiums filled with fans, but with covid it is very limited capacity meaning not as many people can come to the stadium to watch them play. Here are the top three players of each position.

At first base, the top three players are Freddie Freeman, Paul Goldschmidt, and Luke Voit. Freddie Freeman (in first place) plays for the Atlanta Braves and also won the 2020 National League MVP award. Paul Goldschmidt (in second place) plays for the St. Louis Cardinals and jumped from fifth place last year to second place this year. Luke Voit (in third place) plays for the New York Yankees and has 22 home runs for the season.

At second base, the top three players are DJ LeMahieu, Jeff McNeil, and Ketel Marte. DJ LeMahieu (in first place) plays for the New York Yankees and has “recently signed a six-year, $90 million deal with the Yankees”. Jess McNeil (in second place) plays for the New York Mets and ranked fifth last year but has moved up to second this year. Ketel Marte (in third place) plays for the Arizona Diamondbacks and unfortunately dropped from first place last year to third place this year.

At shortstop, the top three players are Trevor Story, Fernando Tatis Jr, and Xander Bogaerts. Trevor Story (in first place) plays for the Colorado Rockies and has held the number one spot for shortstop for the second year now. Fernando Tatis Jr (in second place) plays for the San Diego Padres and finished fourth in NL MVP Award voting. Xander Bogaerts (in third place) plays for the Boston Redsocks and had eleven home runs and eight steals in the 2020 season.

At third base, the top three players are Anthony Rendon, Alex Bregman, and Nolan Arenado. Anthony Rendon (in first place) plays for the Los Angeles Angels and went from second place last year to first place this year. Alex Bregman (in second place) plays for the Houston Astros and moved down a spot from first last year to second this year. Nolan Arenado (in third place) plays for the St. Louis Cardinals and remains in the third place spot from last year to this year.

At right field, the top three players are Mookie Betts, Juan Soto, and Ronald Acuna Jr. Mookie Betts (in first place) plays for the Los Angeles Dodgers and remains in the first place spot from last year to this year. Juan Soto (in second place) plays for the Washington Nationals and was the number one left fielder a year ago, but shifted over to right. Ronald Acuna Jr. (in third place) plays for the Atlanta Braves and has had 55 home runs with 45 steals since the beginning of 2019.

At center field, the top 3 players are Mike Trout, Cody Bellinger, and George Springer. Mike Trout (in first place) plays for the Los Angeles Angels and has been the top center fielder in eight of his ten MLB seasons. Cody Bellinger (in second place) plays for the Los Angeles Dodgers and was the 2019 NL MVP Award winner. George Springer (in third place) plays for the Toronto Blue Jays and recently signed a six-year, $150 million deal with the Blue Jays.

At left field, the top three players are Christian Yelich, Michael Brantley, and Mark Canha. Christian Yelich (in first place) plays for the Milwaukee Brewers and holds a 1.005 OPS in three seasons with the team. Michael Brantley (in second place) plays for the Houston Astros who also remains second in the ranking from last year to this year. Mark Canha (in third place) plays for the Oakland Athletics and went from fifth place to third place on the ranking this year.

The top three starting pitchers are Jacob deGrom, Gerrit Cole, and Max Scherzer. Jacob deGrom (in first place) plays for the New York Mets and struck out 39% of batters faced and holds onto the number one spot. Gerrit Cole (in second place) plays for the New York Yankees and has a 33% strikeout rate. Max Scherzer (in third place) plays for the Washington Nationals and is pitching to a 3.74 ERA over twelve starts.

The top three catchers are J.T Realmuto, Yasmani Grandal, and Will Smith. J.T Realmuto (in first place) plays for the Philadelphia Phillies and he had a very strong throwing arm, stellar pitch-framing skills, and a powerful bat. Yasmani Grandal (in second place) plays for the Chicago White Sox and dropped spots from number one last year to number two this year. Will Smith (in third place) plays for the Atlanta Braves and has never played in majors yet before this year.

All these players are outstanding at what they do and the changes they faced this season did not at all affect how they played.
