Cheerleaders were not allowed to cheer at any away football games during the 2020 fall cheer season due to Covid. I think that cheerleaders should have been able to cheer at away games because everyone is socially distanced on the sideline.

The football players were told to have their mask on which little of them did . All of the football players were all on top of eachother without masks for the majority of the time. The cheer coach kept making sure that we had masks on when we were facing the football players when none of them did.

Every other sport was able to go on the bus and then take their mask off to play their game. Meanwhile, cheerleaders were not able to go on the bus and we all stayed socially distanced on the sideline and cheered.

To continue, the cheerleaders were not allowed to have any skin to skin contact which includes stunting, which is the main part of cheer. So all we really had to do was the sideline cheers, while we watched the football players tackle and spit on top of eachother.

Isabella Winograd, who is a cheerleader on the Emerson cheer team, said,“In my opinion cheerleaders should definitely be able to cheer at away games and it is so unfair that they are not. Many other sports are able to be traveling so why wouldn’t the cheerleaders be. Cheerleaders follow safety precautions that the school provides for us and we wear our masks.”

Faith Rivers, who is also a cheerleader on the Emerson cheer team, said, “I think it is unfair because all of the other sports were allowed to so why is it any different for cheerleaders when we were probably the sport team that took the most precautions.”

We all think that it is not right that cheerleaders were not able to cheer at away games because it was one of the safest sports during the fall season.

To conclude, I think that it was not fair that cheerleaders were not able to cheer at away games. When cheering, we were all socially distanced on the sideline and there was not any person to person contact. However, several other sports were able to go on the bus and have person to person contact with other students from other towns.
