Mask required signs are coming down in the states of Texas and Mississippi.On March 3rd, Governor Abbott issued that the state of Texas will reopen 100%.  It is way too early for people to walk around without masks. The government is working on giving people the coronavirus vaccines so everyone in the country could be vaccinated and people do not need to wear masks anymore. 

According to The Washington Post, an interview happened with an epidemiologist at the Institute of Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington.” This is not just about the decision of one state because it affects all of us. People in Texas will get on planes and drive. The more the virus spreads there, the more chance the virus will mutate.”

I think it is way too early for Texas and Mississippi to raise the mask mandate because other states are still struggling with cases. Even though the cases have been going down since President Biden’s presidency, why could the states just wait a few months for most of the population in the United States to get vaccinated? 

One of the advisors at Duke University who is a professor in business, medicine, and policy, told the Washington Post that, “ Texas has been making some real progress, but it’s too soon for full reopening and to stop masking around others.

¨Also, in recent days, the daily numbers of new infections and deaths have increased in both states since reopening. But, those numbers have also been affected because of the huge winter storm those states recently just went through. 

It is crazy to think that both states are ranked far behind other states in vaccine distribution, so why would they reopen? Citizens who live in both states also do not understand why they are lifting the mask restrictions. Others at a restaurant made the opposite call of what the governor issued. They said,” It’s still around even though people are not talking about it as much,” they said “I’m going to keep my mask on and might double up if I have to because there are still different strands coming around. I honestly don’t know why he decided to.”

Since other states are having issues with the Covid-19 cases, I think it is way too early for Texas and Mississippi to reopen. There are so many people that travel into the states of Texas and Mississippi, so the virus could easily spread throughout the states in the matter of days. I think other states should wait until most of the population in the United States is vaccinated and then they should start to reopen everything.
