On March 1, Netflix released a documentary about the rapper, The Notorious B.I.G.. As a fan I got really excited and had to write a review on it.

In the beginning of the documentary, we learn about Biggie’s family history. They start off with his mom’s past and where she grew up. They give us a visual experience of where she grew up and how life was there. She grew up in Jamaica as a child and migrated to the U.S. in her teens. She migrated to the Bronx, where Biggie was born and raised.

After learning about his childhood, the documentary moves to how Biggie had gotten introduced to music. During the summer, Biggie’s mom would take him on vacations to visit family back in Jamaica. In Jamaica, Biggie’s uncle would take him to gatherings where people would freestyle rap over jamaican beats.

He starts to become very interested in music and even begins to write a rhyme book. Back in the Bronx, Biggie had a neighbor who was a saxophone player and took Biggie in as his musical son and taught him the saxophone.

As Biggie grew up he started to go down the wrong path and hung with the wrong people. He dropped out of highschool and started selling crack at the age of sixteen. As Biggie was on the streets of New York, he started to freestyle rap around his friends and started to become known after winning a roast battle.

Shortly after the roast he had become featured on, a local newspaper which led him to meet P Diddy. P Diddy was fascinated by Biggie and wanted to make him famous. During this point of the documentary, we see Biggie debate over whether he wants to continue selling drugs or to start a music career.  After realizing what was best for his family, he chose music and after that he blew up. He started to perform shows, released music, and everyone loved him.

In his prime of fame he met Tupac (a rapper from California) and became close. Then the east and west coast became rivals which affected their friendship, since Tupac was from the east and Biggie was from the west.

Unfortunately one night Tupac was on his way to a party when he was shot and killed. Rumours began that Biggie had paid someone to get Tupac killed, but this rumor has never been confirmed true. Biggie has been upset about his death and wanted to visit the east coast to fix the rivalry that had been going on. Then in the middle of his trip Biggie had also been shot and killed.

Both of their deaths remain unsolved. Personally i thought this was a great documentary especially if you are a fan of Biggie. It included great visuals and some of his best songs. Overall, I thought that this documentary was very entertaining and I totally recommend watching it .
