New Year’s Eve was celebrated very differently this year for everyone. Many people who normally go out and spend time with friends and go to big parties were not able to this year, and instead had to stay home and have a virtual celebration.

Madison Hall, a senior at EHS, said how she celebrated. “I had a very laid back New Year’s Eve, as I couldn’t really see my family and friends due to Covid. I just spent it with my mom and sister.”

The Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve was the most affected New Year’s Eve tradition. There were minimal people allowed in New York City. The people who were invited to watch had to be socially distanced and wear masks.

The performances were also not as great as other years due to the difficulty of traveling for some celebrities. Some of the performers were Jennifer Lopez, Billy Porter, Cyndi Lauper, Jimmie Allen, Machine Gun Kelly. The most exciting performance was by Machine Gun Kelly because it seemed like it was the New Years’ Eve we have had in the past.

Lianna Isakhanian, another senior at EHS, gave her thoughts on The Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve. “I watched very little of it, it was sad not a lot of people were there in the space like other years and there weren’t a lot of exciting performances.”

Many artists actually hosted virtual concerts for fans, including Justin Biber and Post Malone. Biber hosted a virtual and socially distant concert at the Beverly Hilton in California sponsored by T-Mobile. Biber performed for about two hours, and released his new song, Anyone, at the concert.

Budlight hosted a Budlight Seltzer Session with headliners: Post Malone, Jack Harlow, Steve Aoki and Sebastián Yatra.

Host Lilly Singh said, “I’m excited to host the first-ever Bud Light Seltzer Sessions New Year’s Eve show and ring in 2021 with audiences virtually. I know I’m not the only one looking forward to 2021 and this means I now have plans for New Year’s.”

Everyone is excited for the end of 2020 and is looking forward to the fresh start 2021 has to offer.

“I am excited for 2021 because it is a new year, a new mindset. I am excited to put 2020 in the past and look forward to the new opportunities and adventures 2021 has in store,” Ava Mokrzecki, EHS senior, said.

New Year’s Eve 2020 was not the best, but people made it work and welcomed in 2021 with open arms: excited to leave 2020 in the past.
