During the 3rd and 4th of December, Southern California has been consumed by fires. Many homeowners have lost their homes, and they have nowhere to stay due to these devastating fires. These fires are extremely hard to put out, and they are requiring a lot of firefighters. So far two firefighters have been injured, but thankfully there have not been any reported deaths.

California has been known for having a lot of fires, but this one got extremely out of hand. According to NBC News,  the fire started in Silverado County, and it has stretched nearly 50 miles. The fire has already consumed over 7,000 acres of land, and that number is increasing every day. There have been hundreds of homes that have been damaged, and people do not have anywhere to stay.

According to Larry Pffafy, “First time I saw our house, I knew it was gone,” Larry Pfaffy said. “But I was scared to death of the neighbors getting burnt, too”.

The main reason the fire spread so fast was due to the 80mph winds, and these winds made it hard for firefighters to put out the fire. When the winds are this bad it is very hard to put out fires, and firefighters in California have had a very difficult time.

There were a lot of residents in the area when the fire started, and 25,000 residents have been evacuated from their homes. The fire started in a house, and it quickly spread due to the intense winds. This fire was sparked by a generator in a home, and this was why it was initially so hard to put out by the family.

According to Christopher Weber of the Associated Press, “Larry and Carol Pfaffy owned the canyon house where the blaze is believed to have started. The couple told KNBC-TV that they had started up a generator after the power was shut off by Southern California Edison as a precaution against high winds knocking down power lines and sparking a fire”.

Many people have lost everything from this fire including their clothes, electronics, and everyday life items. This has been a devastating year for fires in California, and these fires have taken thousands of lives. The initial cause of the increase in all of these fires has been climate change, and the burning of oil, gas, and coal.

These fires have been an ongoing crisis in California, and they do not seem to stop. Thousands of peoples, homes and personal belongings have been damaged. Firefighters, policemen, and people living in California are all recovering from this horrible fire. Hopefully in the future there will be a way to prevent so many fires from breaking out and spreading so easily.
