Covid-19 Through a Senior’s Eyes

Every freshman dreams about their senior year. Who they are going to prom with, getting ready for college, powderpuff, standing in the front at football games, and so many last experiences. But for the class of 2021, many seniors will not get their one last time at school functions and events. Covid has forced schools to completely change their school year.

To start off, hybrid schedules and virtual learning have come into part of the school’s new teaching methods. The whole student body is split into three groups: A, B, and A/B. The A and B groups alternate which days they are in school. Half are virtual and half are in school then they alternate. The A/B group is completely virtual and do not come into school at all to socially distance. For seniors, this means they are not able to see all of their friends when they are in school or in classes. They are missing out on precious time to spend with their classmates before they go to college. We have a small community, which makes us all close and each school year filled with memories.

In continuation, almost all school gatherings are cancelled. Seniors look forward to a variety of activities such as pep rally, powderpuff, prom, project graduation, and a variety of club affairs. Our school always put in 110% when it comes to making these moments memorable for us. The whole grade works together at the events, which is what makes it such a special bonding moment. So much effort and planning goes into it seniors feel like all they have worked for has gone to waste.

Senior year is supposed to be the best one yet filled with magical memories and experiences. It is the last time we get to spend time with some people we have been in school with for 12 years. While they understand why we need to make sacrifices, seniors are doing the best they can to make the best of their time together during Covid- 19.
