With a 17-65 record, the 2019 New York Knicks looked to have a clear shot for the # 1 overall pick, Zion Williamson, but things changed quickly when they dropped to the 3rd pick in a light draft class. They also traded their star player,  Kristap Porzingis, in order to clear their cap space to pick up guys like Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant. To conclude what happened were picked up by the Brooklyn Nets, and with poor choices after that like the Julius Randles 3 year/63 million dollar contract, the Knicks were in shambles yet again.

It is clear that he future of the New York Knicks relies on this year’s free agency and also the upcoming draft. The Knicks were rewarded with the 8th pick in a very heavy draft class, so that is promising.

Per Daily Knicks the Knicks have 42.4-47.8 in cap space which is in the top 3 for teams in the league. To put it in perspective the most the Knicks could put up for a max contract is 37.4 million, so they could offer a super star a max contract and still have ample room to spend more money on top of that.

Good free agents available this off season are Anthony Davis, Brandon Ingram, Demar Derozan, Fred Vanvleet, Davis Bertans, and Gordon Hayward, just to name a few. The hope is to lure in these tops guys with the cap space the team has available.

The Knicks underwent full new management with hires like Tom Thibodeau for head coach and also the new president of the Knicks Leon Rose who is said to attract many free agents. With this new management, the Knicks community is confident in some respectable signings and a respectable pick, unlike prior unnecessary free agent signings and draft picks in the past.

When talking about the draft,  new president , Leon Rose, went on about how diverse and unique this draft class is because of its highs and lows.

Leon said, “In this draft there’s a couple of guys that might stand out, and there’s a lot of equality, and a lot of guys that are close with different skill sets, different positives and different negatives.”

With a president who is confident and fully aware of the talent in the draft class, the Knicks community has every right to feel comfortable about the next new rookie.

It is clear to see the Knicks are finally in good hands now with these new additions in the front office. Also with a solid pick in a draft heavy class plus enough cap space for a superstar and others on top of that, the future of the Knicks is looking promising and positive.
