A Little Exit Means a Long Time For Leaving

A Little Exit Means a Long Time For Leaving

Isabella Forsdahl, Writer

School’s out after a prolonged day of work and testing. You pack up all of your belongings, leave the school, enter the school bus, and sit in twenty minutes worth of traffic. There’s nothing like having a tiring day at school, only to find yourself waiting in the unbelievably long line of traffic that wraps around the whole parking lot.

Many Emerson students feel that the traffic near the only exit of the school has led us to missing appointments, to making ourselves late for important meetings. The point is, the narrow exit at the school has been such an inconvenience for all students amongst the Emerson school district. The narrow exit at Emerson high school puts others at risk for unfortunate accidents.  According to others and myself, the school should consider extending the width of the school’s exit, adding both a left and a right turning lane onto Main Street . As mentioned by a fellow Emerson peer going by the name Riley Smith, she stated “The traffic is absurd. My mom always parks on one of the side streets in order to avoid the traffic when picking me up.”

With the aid of a wider exit, many students and staff members will have the ability to turn in either desired direction according to where their new destination is. Along with the fact that the wider exit will be more useful for all of the Emerson high school’s students and staff, many people will also find themselves not sitting in the long train of traffic.

Although the wider exit might be a big step in clearing most of the unwanted traffic in Emerson, the construction on the bridge will most likely be very expensive; costing several thousand dollars at most. In the long run however, a wider exit is the perfect addition to reduce traffic, considering the fact it allows people to exit the lot more efficiently.

Until there is a final decision amongst the school staff to reconstruct the exit, the school should encourage the use of carpooling with friends from class to lessen the amount of congestion towards the exit of the school.
