Due to the outbreak of the Coronavirus, schools all over the United States are now closed, some for the rest of the school year,  and 1.4 million students now have switched to online classes. However, unable to access the internet is making it difficult for some students to continue their education.

It’s unknown how long many schools will be shut down for, however, many teachers are worried about their students and their education. Many schools have loaned their student’s electronic devices or given them paper packets, yet, some teachers fear that their student’s education is at risk and many say that the U.S needs guidance.

Over 1.4 million students have now switched to online classes, however, a variety of these students do not have access to an electronic device or the internet. We have many students who are new to the country. They don’t have access to a computer outside of school or the public library” states New Jersey English teacher, Michelle Polo-Thrope.

Emerson schools have also had to resort to online classes. For some students, online classes are stressful, confusing, and long. Many of these factors are due to the new learning environment. Students are at home and can be easily distracted by their electronic devices, such as their phones, or family members. Therefore, many students are struggling to continue their education, especially, since they have to adjust to a new learning environment.

“It’s hard to have online classes because it is more distracting at home than at school” explains Emerson High School student, Ryan Grompone.

Not only are Emerson students struggling with a new learning environment, but there are dozens of other students around the United States that are struggling with this new transition. The outbreak of the Coronavirus is affecting students of all ages as they now shift to online courses and a new learning environment.  This outbreak is also affecting teachers as they also have to upload and post all their lesson plans online for their students to continue their education.

High school students are not the only ones who have had to switch to online classes. Many colleges and universities have shut down and have had their students take online courses. For many students, this is horrible and depressing news. Due to this outbreak, graduation ceremonies are now postponed, and parents and students are now demanding refunds for the shortened semester.

The outbreak of the Coronavirus is impacting the United States and its pupils as they now have to switch to online classes which may be a conundrum to some. Many students and parents are facing issues such as access to the internet, postponing or canceling school events, and asking colleges or universities for refunds due to the shortened semester. All in all, all over the U.S there are students of all ages that are struggling to continue their education through online courses and struggling to adjust to the new learning environment.
