Winter Lacrosse

Kiley Sweeney, Writer

Lacrosse is not only played in the spring, but it now played during the winter. It is a way for athletes to get ready for the spring season and keep their bodies and minds in shape for the sport. Sophomores Bonnie Sagredo, Sierra Rivers, Kristen Morgan, Natalia Baron, and Emily Quinones participate in winter lacrosse. Is a team that consists of the five Emerson students and AHA girls that come together on Sundays and play a game of lacrosse. It’s on Sundays from around 12 and 5 pm. They go to a sports complex in Oakland, where they play one 40 minute game. When asking athletes Bonnie Sagredo and Sierra Rivers their thoughts on the sport, they had some opinions to share.

Do you enjoy playing winter lacrosse. Why?

“Yes, because it gives me something to do in the winter and it keeps me working on my lacrosse skills for the upcoming season.”

How is the game divided?

“The game is divided into halves. After 20 minutes we switch sides.”

What happens in a tie?

“If it is a tie it just stays in a tie.”

How long does it take to get there?

“It takes about 20-25 minutes.”

Do you guys wear uniforms?

“No, we wear regular sports clothing but we have pinnys over them.”

Do you guys have a coach?

“No, because it is more for fun than an actual league.”

Lacrosse is a way for them to keep active, and also helps them to improve their skills so that they can get better for their spring season. It’s not a far ride and it helps with their skills each week. It is also a way for them to interact with other people and not just their same team. Without a coach, it is also a way for them to decide how they want to play and make the best decisions for their team. It is a way for them to be active and have fun all at once.
