Simone Biles, taking part in the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, is said to become the most accomplished olympian following her record breaking performances in Germany and having the highest amount of world medals in the history of gymnastics.

According to the official USA Gymnastics website, Biles discovered her abilities at an early age. She visited a gymnastics center with her daycare group, and while there she was imitating other gymnasts, when one of the coaches noticed her. Eventually, the gym sent a letter to her house requesting that she join either tumbling or gymnastics. Very soon, Biles joined gymnastics and discovered her abilities.

The 22 year old took part in the 2019 World Artistic Gymnastics Championship in the beginning of October in Stuttgart, Germany. Simone had a record breaking performance, ending in a full-twisting double back. She went home with 5 gold medals, adding to her collection. She now has a total of 25 medals, 19 of those being gold. Simone now stands with the most medals in the gymnastics history of worlds.

Biles seems to be everyone’s favorite, regardless of where she is competing. Biles took home a gold medal in 2014 and 2015 in Columbus, Ohio. However, she lost her balance and settled for the bronze medal at both events in 2016 Rio Olympics and 2018 World Champion. According to the Olympic Channel, Simone Biles has become the most decorated World Championship gymnast of all time after winning the gold medal on balance beam at StuttGart 2019.

According to Business Insider, Simone Biles once competed while battling a kidney stone in 2018. A day before the competition Biles had to go to the hospital; however, she could not take any medications for it. Despite all the pain she was going through, and the multiple falls and uncharacteristic errors, she still got six medals at the World Gymnastics Championships. Biles did more than deal with the pain, she dominated it.

According to the Olympics’s website, Simone is now working with two coaches, Laurent and Cécile Landi, in preparation for the Games next year. After the Olympics next year, she will be retiring from gymnastics at 23 years old. Business Insider is already anticipating a jaw dropping performance from Biles in the summer of 2020.

When asked about her retirement after the Games in 2020 in a USA Today interview, Biles said, “It’s going back to a five-person team (for the Paris Olympics in 2024) and you could have a specialist. But I don’t know, floor routines are hard. It’s not easy. I’ve always thought that I don’t want gymnastics to be my whole entire life. I just want it to be a part of my life, a piece of legacy that I put in the books. Then I have to move on and continue with the rest of my life. Whatever that may be. I don’t know yet.”

In an interview with Sports Illustrated, she also said, “I am in pain most of the time but it kind of feels right as if not, it is like you could do more. I definitely plan for the Tokyo Olympics to be my last. I feel like my body’s gone through a lot and it’s kind of just falling apart – not that you can actually tell but I really feel it a lot of the time.”

With Michael Phelps and Usain Bolt now retired, Simone Biles will be the face of the 2020 Olympics. Millions of people around the world will sit in front of their TV screens, anticipating the long awaited performance from the incredibly talented gymnast.
