Netflix’s new original Fate: The Winx Saga quickly rose to number one of the top 10 chart. The new fantasy series is based on Winx Club, an animated series that originally aired in the 2000’s in Italy. While Winx Club is for young children, the new series was modified into a young adult series.

Fate: The Winx Saga takes place at Alfea, a magical boarding school in a different dimension called the “Otherworld”. The show opens with Bloom, a normal teenage girl finding out she is a fairy and is starting the next chapter of her life at Alfea. Bloom and her roommates become very close and form the Winx Club.

Each roommate has a different power: Bloom can create fire, Aisha can control water, Terra can manipulate plants, and Musa is an empath. The first season is mainly about the girls learning how to control their powers and how they navigate the threats outside of the barrier protecting the school.

The barrier is there to keep deadly creatures called burned ones out of school. When headmistress Dowling went to Alfea, her and her other classmates trained relentlessly to rid the otherworld of these creatures. They believed they had rid the world from them, but after further research, their nightmares become true.

“There is a legend. It’s a thousand years old. That’s how old the Burned Ones are, by the way. They were soldiers from an ancient war. The legend is about the magic used against them. It created them. It’s powerful. It’s primal. The Dragon Flame. It burns inside our changeling friend,” (Rosalind Episode 6).

Burned ones have superhuman strength and speed, making them nearly indestructible if it was a one on one fight. Most of the time the creatures will just kill anything it’s way. But if someone managed to get away, if they are scratched an infection slowly grows and turns them into a Burned One. The only way to cure the infection is kill the Burned One that scratched the victim.

It comes to Bloom’s attention that the Burned Ones are after her and she made the tough decision to stand up to them when they infiltrate the school. To protect her fellow classmates from these deadly monsters, she led them out of the school and used her powers to defeat them. After the Burned Ones are defeated they turn back to their human state making Bloom the key to stopping the chaos they are causing.

This fantasy series keeps you guessing throughout each episode and hit number one on Netflix’s top ten chart shortly after it was released. Fate held its number one spot for several days after its release making it a good sign for a season two.
