The 2019-2020 Emerson school year has the highest amount of new teachers ever. Emerson High Schools newest Journalism/ Language arts teacher is Susan Deubner.

Mrs. Deubner has recently started her tenth year of teaching. She says she wanted to become a teacher because she’s always loved learning and enjoys working with young people. She also feels that she is also learning along with the students.

She is also excited to teach Journalism since, “It’s important to teach kids to be aware of the news and what is going on in the world because students will start voting and need to be informed about the world.” Journalism will show what is going on in the world and in the news.

Mrs. Deubner grew up in Rochester, New York. She has 4 kids, 2 in college and 2 in high school. On the weekends she is busy taking her kids to games and tournaments. Something that Mrs. Deuber loves to do is travel. She says that in college she backpacked through Europe and was one of her favorite trips.

When asked what she likes about Emerson, Mrs. Deubner said, “It is friendly and small. For a small school, it is very sophisticated and has a lot of great opportunities for the students considering the size. The staff is very talented and the students are very welcoming.” Mrs. Deubner is liking Emerson so far and is ready to get the school year started.
