Seniors Josh Salles and Jaiden Mason are co-presidents of the large and popular club here at EHS: ‘Relay for Life!  Jaiden has been a participant in Relay for Life for years, before the Emerson team was even born. Josh has been a key helper and supporter of this club since it came here to EHS. They both recently explained what the club is about.

“Four years ago, the key club started doing it as one of their service projects. They sort of did it during the year and then last year we made the club,” Salles explained.

Salles also began to explain the different events that take place each year during Relay for Life. “There is a luminaria ceremony and constant laps that people are walking and fun events going from the morning to the afternoon.”

There are a bunch of ways to honor those that have lost their battle, won their battle, or continue to fight their battle.”

There are many platforms in which information on this event is spread. “There are posters all around the school and towns nearby. We have been posting on social media. We are in charge of that committee for the entire Pascack Valley so we run the Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for Relay for Life.” Mason and Salles stated.

To get involved in Relay for Life, students can start by simply joining the club or coming May 18th from noon to midnight to help out. The goal is to spread awareness for cancer and honor those who are currently fighting or those who have passed. If you are looking to join the club, you can speak to co-presidents, Jaiden Mason and Josh Salles or the club advisers, Mrs. Rehak and Mrs. Loblanco.

Salles concluded, “This is a great way to see what you can do because it impacts the greater good.”
